Overview of HPPO process technology
The process technology of HPPO originated from Italy at the earliest. The titanium-silicon molecular sieve catalyst used in the process technology of HPPO was successfully developed in the late 20th century and applied in the production process of propylene oxide. At present, the HPPO production processes mainly include Basf/Dow chemical HPPO process and Evonik/Wood HPPO process. The former HPPO units that have been put into production include Antwerp in Belgium and Matabao in Thailand. In these two HPPO units, the epoxidation reaction of propylene to hydrogen peroxide is realized through a tubular reactor, and methanol is used as a solvent. , with milder reaction conditions. The continuous production method of propylene oxide developed by BASF uses titanium silicalite molecular sieve as a catalyst to make propylene and hydrogen peroxide react to form propylene oxide. Later, South Korea's SKC Company established the first HPPO industrial production plant using the Evonik/Wood HPPO process at the beginning of this century. By 2017, the plant had a production capacity of 150,000 t/a. At present, the problems existing in Chinese enterprises lie in the performance of catalysts, the production of hydrogen peroxide, and the subsequent purification of PO. This article will analyze and explore these key issues, and provide some suggestions and opinions for the development of HPPO process technology in my country.
